August 16, 2026 | 11 Free Events in Toronto Today
Sorry it's a little late today, had computer issues. We missed a few early walks and fitness events. Hopefully you're signed up for the weekly posts that get delivered. Here are today's picks:
Scarborough Birdwatch
Highland Creek | 11a-12:30p
Guided walk through Highland Creek with the Scarborough Environmental Association. Beginners welcome. Only need to RSVP if you want to borrow binoculars.

Live Music: Madeleine Roger
Music Garden | 4p
A great way to cap off the afternoon on the west end by the lake. Live music in the garden. They also do this on Thursday evenings.

Wavelength Summer Thing f/ Shad
Trillium Park | 5p-11p
Wavelength's summer festival at Trillium Park with a Canadian lineup headlined by Shad. There's space to walk around and dip in and out as you feel comfortable. Catch the music in the garden, then walk here to check out the festival.

Unplugged: In The Museum Garden
Gibson House Museum | 5-7:30p
Poetry, music, open mic, and a writer's circle in the Gibson House garden. Free, because the economy is rotting. Quiet space available for those who need it.

The Reading Club
Grange Park | 10a-12p
Silent reading near the AGO. Bring whatever you're in the middle of. Cold drinks, light snacks, and book chat if you want it.

Jazzy Blockparty
W & H.S. Commercial Building | 3-8p
Closing party for an event space that's coming down. Live music, DJs, parking lot energy. Go say goodbye to it properly...and then say hello again as they got a last minute lease renewal until the end of the year. Building is eventually making way for green space one Queen West.

A Little Bazaar
The Parkdale Hall | 11a-4p
Toronto Sunday Market's doing its thing at Parkdale Hall. A little local shopping and these days it's a lot of thrift
DARE Art Exhibit
1158 Queen St E | 12–5p
Last day to catch this one. Nine artists, a range of media, diverse subject matter — worth a walk down Queen East before it closes out.
Toronto Country Fest
55 Mill St | 1p–10:30p
Live music in the Distillery District, boots optional but encouraged by me. Running through the 23rd if today doesn't work. Check the schedule because there are line dancing nights and other special events.

Sunday International Chess Club
College & Shaw Library | 6p–7p
Every other Sunday at the library they put on a very beginner friendly chess event. Even if you're new they will provide lessons. Start here, then graduate to the chess club events.

Free Sundays
Bata Shoe Museum | 9a-5p
Free entry every Sunday. And unlike the ROM, you get full access. It does get busy, but it's also something fun to do once.
